What to Look For in a Good Air Fryer

The capacity of a fryer depends on the size of the family and the number of guests. For instance, if you have a small family of 4 to 5 people, a fryer with a capacity of 2 liters should be enough.

Make sure that the outlets in your kitchen are able to support the watts that your air fryer will consume. It is important to make sure that these can handle the high temperatures that an air fryer can bring.

The maximum power consumption of an air fryer is not more than 1 unit a day. In most cases, the air fryer consumes less than half of a day's power.

The temperature control of your air fryer can affect the way it cooks food. Generally, higher temperatures allow air fryers to cook faster. However, they can also reduce grease absorption in the food.

A well-insulated air fryer with a cool-touch hand grip will keep your hands safe while pulling out the basket. Also, make sure that the base is non-slip and has a locking lid.

10 things I wish I knew before buying an air fryer

After years of being in the kitchen, I finally understood why so many people love the air fryer. It's a kitchen tool that allows you to quickly and easily prepare food without using oil.

Even though the air fryer changed my lifestyle, there were still some surprises that I did not realize before I bought it.

There are many different types of air fryers, and the one you choose is important.

There were so many options when it came to air fryers. In the end, I went with the Cuisinart model because it has more capabilities.

There are a number of air fryers on the market, but the majority of them boil down to two basic models: the convection oven and the basket air fryer. The former is a more traditional type of air fryer, while the latter features a drawer-like compartment.

Air fryers can take up a lot of counter space.

Though it's small enough to fit in a small cabinet, the air fryer could not be stored away. When I unboxed my new device, I discovered that it required 2 feet of counter space to fit in my apartment.

Everything cooks so fast — sometimes too fast.

Sometimes, I cook something so fast that I never realize that it's done. One night, I overshot the mark on my meatloaf, which caused it to burn for dinner.

When it comes to preparing chicken breasts, an air fryer typically takes around 10 to 15 minutes to cook. This means that I have to adjust my cooking routine to get done.

When cooking in an air fryer, most dishes can be done in under 15 minutes. This is usually a surprise for me. Usually, I wait for a few minutes to get the chicken breasts done before I start to cook them.

You have to flip most foods halfway through the cooking time for an even cook.

Sometimes, the top of the food gets crispy and the bottom stays soggy in an air fryer. This is because the oil doesn't allow the food to get an even cooking texture.

This is a skill that I learned quickly. I had to flip the food around once the oven has started to get hot.

Some air fryers come with a basket and a tray, and it's confusing when you should use which.

Some recipes I've used have told me to use the basket, while others have said to use the tray. When it comes to preparing dinner, I often have a hard time deciding which is best to use.

Since my air fryer looks so big, I've started to use it like an oven. Sometimes, I've just thrown in food and set the temperature to a certain level.

Follow a specific recipe and follow its instructions, and the food turns out better.

The cooking space is quite small

Some recipes also said that I should only put in two strips of chicken breasts at once to prevent overcooking.

Though it's bigger than I expected, I couldn't find space for a large group of people to cook food in it. Also, I couldn't imagine using this device for multiple batches.

Similarly, you can't cook the meat and the vegetables at the same time.

Since I was using an air fryer, I didn't have to worry about the vegetables burning or the chicken getting cold.

Olive oil is still necessary when cooking with an air fryer.

Contrary to popular belief, air fryers do not replace the need for olive oil. Instead, they are often used to crisp up food.

When the food is cooking, it's difficult to check if it's done.

Since an air fryer doesn't have a window, it's hard to see how it's cooking. Also, with basket air fryers, it's impossible to tell if something is being done right.
